The purpose of this blog is to introduce and pursue an individual research topic initiated during my Master's degree and entitled: "The image of the barbarian in Rome and in the Roman world". Its objective, in a historical and anthropological approach, is to study the criteria of otherness or kinship used to describe the encounter and relationship of the Roman to the other, both inside and outside the city. These extracts, mostly from Latin literature, provide us less with a reliable testimony about ancient peoples than about what constitutes Romanity and the idea that the Romans have of it.
