Literature and the Face: A Critical History
Australian Research Council Discovery Project
This project is an historical study of the way the human face is represented in literary texts. The history of the face is often told in visual terms; our project sees the literary text as a crucial site for reading and analysing facial expression. It examines the ways that literary texts dramatise, enact and encourage cognitive and emotional acts of comprehension and empathy.
