Premium formats

Readers from partner institutions can download PDF and ePub formats for all the books acquired by the institution, and for all the journals of the freemium bundle if the institution has subscribed to the journal offer. These reading formats can be downloaded and consulted from any computing device (computer, eReader, smartphone or tablet), without DRM, quotas or time limits. For an enhanced reading experience, the Reader mode format is available in streaming for the acquired books.

Journals

Users can access the PDF formats of the articles and the ePub formats of the journal issues directly from the sites of the journals, by clicking on the available format indicated:

• under the title of the issue
• under the ‘full text’ mention (PDF / Article level)

Books

Users can access PDF formats (books/chapters), ePub and Reader mode formats (books) directly from the pages of the books. 

The OpenEdition catalogue on mobile apps with OPDS

Thanks to the OPDS standard, the entire OpenEdition catalogue of books and journals can be accessed from any ePub reading app for smartphone, eReader or tablet.

With OPDS (Open Publication Distribution System), any book, article or digital content in ePub format can be read on all types of mobile devices. Users can search the OpenEdition catalogue of books and journals, add books to their personal library in just one click, and be informed of the latest publications made available on-line.

Any application compatible with the OPDS standard, for example Aldiko, FBReader or Bookari, will allow readers to add the OpenEdition catalogue by clicking the following link from their tablet or smartphone: http://opds.openedition.org  

Bilbo: the bibliographic record generator

The Bilbo text-mining tool identifies the bibliographic references in the articles published on OpenEdition Journals and the books available on OpenEdition Books (chapters, introductions, bibliographies, etc.), and semantizes the different elements contained in each reference. It then identifies the DOIs corresponding to these references, and when they exist, adds them to the end of the reference as a hyperlink. This makes it possible to directly access the cited resource. 

Once the reference is identified, Bilbo is able to enrich it with additional data and display it in different formats. Readers can thus access the lists of the generated bibliographic references. Readers consulting a document from a library or institution that has subscribed to one of the OpenEdition Freemium programmes will be able to download the references for which Bilbo has found a DOI in APA, MLA and Chicago formats.

Acquisition suggestions

The OpenEdition Books website interface allows users to make acquisition suggestions. If the user is logged in, the suggestions are automatically sent to the subscribing institution. Otherwise, the OpenEdition Freemium team receives and forwards them to the relevant institution.
